Code Sociale Ondernemingen
Code Sociale Ondernemingen (CSO) recognizes social enterprises in the Netherlands that place societal impact at the heart of their operations. Applicants must endorse five principles of the Code and undergo rigorous assessment by a Review Board. CSO coordinates assessments, manages the Dutch Register of Social Enterprises, monitors compliance, and oversees formal reassessments every two years to ensure ongoing commitment. This process strengthens trust in social enterprises, enhances their visibility, and creates opportunities with governments, financiers, and corporations. Recognized impact areas include increasing labor participation of vulnerable groups, improving care, fostering social cohesion in neighborhoods, circular and sustainable production, energy and food transitions, and international development.
Developed at the request of Social Enterprise NL, the Code is registered as an independent not-for-profit Foundation, ensuring its objectivity and long-term mission to support impactful enterprises across the Netherlands.
