EcoCentral, is in charge of processing the recycling and rubbish collections from the Canterbury region for households and commercial premises. They are part of Christchurch City Holdings Limited and owned by Christchurch City Council. They are passionate about recycling and committed to reducing the amount of waste going to landfill by finding ways to ensure Christchurch leads the way in recycling. EcoCentral works with all sorts of businesses and organisations to help minimise waste in the Canterbury region. Alongside all the education and resources providing to schools, they also help a number of local businesses improve their sustainability.
They operate three core facilities ,EcoDrop,EcoSort & EcoShop . EcoDrop is to drop off household hazardous waste, green waste, recycling, reusable goods, as well as medical waste . EcoSort, a large semi-automated processing plant for the yellow-bin recycling collect from around the region .They try to recycle as much waste as possible in order to give it another useful life. Sometimes even more useful than its first one.The recycling passes through a range of machinery that separates the materials into things like paper and cardboard, glass, metals and plastics.The sorted materials then get sent to a range of companies to be made into new products.After arriving at the plastics facility, it is cleaned and melted down into a range of different products. At an EcoShop, located on Blenheim Road, where they sell checked-over reusable goods supplied by the Resource Recovery Centres
