Kalinko produces timeless, handmade housewares and gives opportunities for sustainable livelihoods to artisans all over Burma. This vast product range includes furniture, lighting, home textiles, tableware, wall art, baskets, toys, and decorative accessories made from rattan, wood, brass, marble, lacquer, recycled glass, bamboo, papier mâché, and handwoven fabrics created by traditional techniques passed down through generations. Kalinko works directly with makers, supplying sustainable materials and providing training and business mentorship and further support when needed. Ocean freight is used to transport the products from Myanmar, and shipping from the United Kingdom is done in fully biodegradable and recyclable packaging. Kalinko works together with Deep Trace, a global risk consultancy, setting up a human rights due diligence methodology to be rigorous and tailored for the Burmese setting while being based on international human rights directives. They reinvest all profits so that growth of their artisans' businesses can be sustained and actually make a positive difference for the communities with whom they work.
