Partnership for Sustainable Development (PSD) Nepal is dedicated to cultivating circular economies and finding sustainable solutions to plastic waste in the Langtang region, a Himalayan national park. The organization has introduced a one-rupee-per-PET bottle incentive scheme, successfully clearing tens of thousands of plastic bottles monthly. These bottles are recycled in Pokhara at Himalayan Plastic and upcycled for educational purposes. The team also builds PET Pavilions at trekking rest points to raise awareness about plastic waste and waste management solutions. PSD Nepal organizes educational activities with schools and community groups, focusing on recycling, segregation, and environmental health, using plastic bottle caps. In partnership with the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), they are testing a pyrolysis machine to convert plastic waste into reduced diesel fuel (RDF). All profits generated are reinvested into their Clean Up Himalaya initiative, further promoting sustainability in the region.
