Samoolam, established in 2009, is a grassroots initiative based in Gaya, Bihar, India, dedicated to providing inclusive and sustainable livelihood solutions for women. Over the years, they have trained more than 500 women and currently collaborate with a network of 110 skilled artisans. These artisans create functional crochet housewares, jewelry, and other accessories, utilizing natural fibers and upcycled or recycled raw materials. Samoolam partners with conscious designers and brands to develop customized products, ensuring that participating women have access to stable, dignified employment, skills development, English language and computer training, and leadership and management opportunities. This empowerment has led to women opening bank accounts, increasing their wages, improving their standards of living, and funding their children's education.
