SunWork Renewable Energy Projects is a nonprofit organization dedicated to making solar energy and heat pump water heaters more accessible and affordable for low-energy-use homeowners and nonprofit organizations in California. Through a unique volunteer-based model, they significantly reduce installation costs while providing hands-on training for individuals interested in renewable energy. SunWork manages every aspect of solar projects, including site analysis, system design, permitting, installation, and support, ensuring a seamless and cost-effective process for clients. Since its inception in 2005, the organization has trained over 3,000 volunteers and installed more than 1,300 solar PV systems, contributing nearly 7 megawatts (MW) of clean energy. Additionally, SunWork has replaced over 150 gas-burning water heaters with energy-efficient heat pump alternatives. Their innovative, community-driven approach fosters workforce development, environmental sustainability, and financial savings, making solar power a practical solution for underserved energy consumers.
