The Period Project
The Period Project is a voluntary initiative aimed at reducing period poverty and menstrual stigma in Sri Lanka. This grassroots effort, led by a group of secondary students, raises funds through secondhand book sales and other creative campaigns. The project focuses on providing essential menstrual products to girls in local schools and orphanages, ensuring that no one has to miss school due to a lack of sanitary products. In addition, The Period Project works to raise awareness about menstruation, its challenges, and its impact on girls’ education. They also advocate for the transition to more sustainable, compostable, and reusable menstrual products to help protect both the environment and the well-being of those in need.
By addressing these critical issues, The Period Project is making significant strides in promoting menstrual equity and social awareness in Sri Lanka.
