Jiwya
Jiwya is a fashion brand that works only with plant-based materials. It sells everyday clothing for men and women, unisex pieces and avant-garde dresses, as well as handmade home decor and tableware. Two textile scientists started the brand after travelling across India to study its traditional crafts. The supply chain uses seven native plant fibres and twenty plant-based colours, with no synthetic dyes, plastic or animal products. The brand says its products can return to the soil at the end of their life. Raw materials come from more than 150 artisan clusters, and the garments are handspun, handwoven and hand-embroidered. Jiwya says its dyeing uses a tenth of the water of conventional methods, and the used water goes to its garden. Scraps from garment production are upcycled into embellishments and accessories. The brand says it pays wages about 17 to 20 percent above industry standards. Through its Re:Jiwya program, it takes back pieces that customers no longer want.
