These Coconut Shell Bowls from Praacheen Vidhaan are handmade by local artisans from self-help women groups using discarded coconut shells that would otherwise go to waste. Each shell is cut, sanded to a smooth finish, polished with coconut oil and sun-dried, so every bowl has its own shape and a rustic, semi-matt finish. They measure approximately 9 to 10 cm in diameter and 3 cm in height. The brand suggests them for cereal, porridge, salads, soups, fruit, ice cream and snacks, or for mixing face masks, and says they suit warm, room temperature and cold food. Hand wash, do not soak for long, towel dry and apply a thin layer of coconut oil for shine. They should not go in the refrigerator, microwave or dishwasher, or be exposed to extreme heat or dropped from a height. The bowls are packed in newspaper and paper shredding that can be composted, and a cracked bowl can be reused as a planter for microgreens or small plants.
