About

Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS), founded in 2018 as an MIT spin-out, is revolutionizing fusion energy through high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet technology. These HTS magnets enable compact, powerful fusion systems capable of achieving net energy gain. CFS’s flagship project, SPARC, is designed to demonstrate the feasibility of sustained fusion reactions. The success of SPARC will pave the way for ARC, the world’s first fusion power plant intended for commercial electricity generation. ARC is expected to generate 400 megawatts of clean, sustainable energy and is slated to be operational by the early 2030s. CFS’s innovations promise to make fusion energy a practical, reliable, and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional energy sources. Based in Devens, Massachusetts, CFS has raised approximately $2 billion to advance its groundbreaking technology, with plans to bring fusion energy to market within the next decade.
