Method and technique
eWATERservices addresses water accessibility challenges in sub-Saharan Africa by integrating mobile payment systems, Internet of Things (IoT) technology, and real-time data monitoring. Their approach centers on the deployment of eWATER Smart Taps, which dispense water upon user authentication via prepaid eWATER tags. Users load credit onto these tags using cash or mobile money through approved vendors. When a tag is tapped on a Smart Tap, the system deducts the corresponding credit as water flows, ensuring a transparent and efficient transaction. These Smart Taps are equipped with IoT sensors that continuously communicate with eWATER's cloud-based platform, providing real-time data on water usage and system performance. This continuous monitoring enables rapid identification and resolution of issues such as low flow rates or equipment faults, thereby ensuring consistent water availability. The revenue generated from water sales is reinvested into the system, funding maintenance and operational costs, which promotes sustainability. By assigning a nominal price to water, communities tend to value and conserve this vital resource more effectively. Through this innovative blend of technology and community engagement, eWATERservices ensures reliable, sustainable, and equitable access to clean water in underserved regions.
