GOLD TONE LOVE THY NEIGHBOR (NO EXCEPTIONS) BANGLE, FCNL Partnership
₹7,900
All faith traditions call everyone to love our neighbors. We are called to love our LGBTQ+ neighbors. Our disabled neighbors. Our poor neighbors. Our immigrant neighbors. Our refugee neighbors. Our neighbors who belong to different political parties. And our neighbors who pray differently than us. Wear this handcrafted bracelet as a reminder that love is hard. But our faith traditions clearly call us to love our neighbors—all our neighbors —without exception. Each purchase from the ARTICLE22 x FCNL collaboration supports both FCNL and Mines Advisory Group in this lifesaving work, as well as the Lao artisans who created these bracelets. The bangle is the first piece and represents the virtuous circle formed by ARTICLE22 - the more jewelry worn and shared, the more land cleared, the more material for artisans to make more jewelry and build their lives. ARTICLE22 is on a mission to transform negative into positive. Each piece of jewelry is a modern heirloom – a piece of history up cycled from Vietnam War shrapnel and scrap by artisans in Laos. Each piece gives back to support traditional Lao artisan livelihoods, village development, community endeavors and further de-mining efforts. Your purchase contributes to MAG (Mines Advisory Group) to safely & expertly clear some of the 80 million unexploded bombs contaminating land in Laos. clears 4m2 of Laotian landscape. How do we get the gold tone? Gold anodization of aluminum known as anodizing is an electrochemical process which converts the metal surface into a decorative, durable, corrosion-resistant, wear-resistant oxide layer. It cannot chip or peel. We do not use pigments, but metals to obtain the gold color. Gold anodizing is therefore extremely UV resistant and will remain sparkling for a long time. COLOR/PATINA MAY VARY DUE TO THE HAND MADE NATURE OF THE PIECE. These imperfections reflect the nature of the material and artisanal hand feel. ARTICLE22
ARTICLE22 is a US for-profit social enterprise selling jewelry and home goods handmade by artisans in Laos. Its first collection, PEACEBOMB, is made by Laotian craftspeople using metal scrap and shrapnel left over from the Vietnam War. Each piece supports MAG (Mines Advisory Group) in clearing unexploded ordnance. The brand says that growing sales allow artisans to create new designs, build their businesses and contribute more to clearance work. Founder Elizabeth Suda started the company after meeting villagers in Laos who melted US bombs into spoons. The brand reports customers in over 40 countries. Good On You rates ARTICLE22 Good overall and Great for people. It notes the brand's mission to improve social conditions in Laos, its tracing of most of its supply chain and living wages for final-stage workers. On the environment, Good On You credits its use of upcycled materials and limited production runs. The brand appears to use leather and has no evidence of an animal welfare policy, which gives it an animals score of It's a Start.
