About

Grama, a project initiated by 'Earthcare' in 2007, is a sustainable enterprise based in the village of Poochackal, Kerala. The organization is deeply committed to empowering local communities, partnering with women’s Self Help Groups (SHGs), local artisans, and individuals to create eco-friendly products while reviving traditional crafts. The name "Grama" translates to "village" in Sanskrit, perfectly reflecting the brand's grassroots origins. Their diverse product catalog features 100% natural, handcrafted herbal soaps formulated with virgin coconut oil and traditional Ayurvedic extracts, solid shampoo bars, dishwash soaps, and natural scrubs. Additionally, they champion the challenged handloom industry by producing elegant, intricately woven bath, hand, and kitchen towels. Prioritizing skin health and environmental safety, Grama ensures all personal care products are paraben-free, allergy-tested, and completely free of artificial fragrances. By choosing Grama, consumers actively support a circular, village-based economy, ethical labor, and conscious, toxin-free living.

A Kerala-based social enterprise crafting natural herbal soaps, eco-friendly utilities, and traditional handloom textiles.

The Handcrafted Natural Skincare And Traditional Handloom Weaving Methodology Implemented By Grama

Method and Technique of Grama are:

  1. Traditional Botanical Saponification: The enterprise utilizes an authentic, low-heat soap-making technique, systematically blending pure virgin coconut oil with deeply therapeutic Ayurvedic herbal decoctions—such as Neem, Tulsi, and Nalpamara—to successfully create highly nourishing, deeply hydrating soap bars that naturally retain their vital medicinal properties.

  2. Fragrance-Free Formulation: Grama employs an uncompromising health-conscious cosmetic engineering method, completely excluding dangerous synthetic fragrances and artificial lab-made perfumes from their mixing process, effectively guaranteeing that the final personal care products remain 100% hypoallergenic and completely safe for highly sensitive and allergy-prone skin.

  3. Indigenous Handloom Weaving: They utilize a deeply traditional and culturally significant textile manufacturing technique, deploying highly skilled local village artisans to manually operate wooden handlooms, successfully weaving premium, highly absorbent cotton threads into beautiful, durable bath and kitchen towels without relying on massive, energy-intensive automated power looms.

  4. Sustainable Kitchen Utility Fabrication: The organization employs an environmentally responsible material fabrication method, deliberately utilizing robust, biodegradable natural fibers to create highly effective dishwash scrubs and solid dishwash soap bars, completely bypassing the massive industrial carbon emissions associated with the automated manufacturing of synthetic plastic sponges.

  5. Grassroots SHG Collaboration: Grama utilizes a highly inclusive, decentralized production method, actively partnering with local women's Self Help Groups (SHGs) across the Poochackal village to manually execute the sorting, crafting, and packaging of their eco-friendly goods, successfully fostering financial independence and structural empowerment at the grassroots level.

  6. Eco-Conscious Packaging and Distribution: They employ a strict environmental distribution technique, carefully preparing their cured herbal soaps and handloom textiles for retail using highly thoughtful, minimal-waste packaging materials that successfully protect product integrity while heavily reducing the brand's overall contribution to global commercial plastic pollution.
