Infarm is a Berlin-based vertical farming company that revolutionizes urban agriculture with modular indoor farming systems. Founded in 2013, it focuses on growing fresh produce like salad greens and herbs in climate-controlled environments, significantly reducing water usage and land requirements. Infarm expanded globally, supplying supermarkets and restaurants, but rising energy costs forced closures in key European markets like Germany, the UK, and the Netherlands in 2023. Despite setbacks, the company pivoted its focus to North America and the Middle East, where energy prices are lower and food security initiatives support vertical farming. Infarm continues to innovate, leveraging technology to optimize plant growth and minimize environmental impact. With its commitment to sustainability, Infarm’s farming systems use 95% less water than traditional agriculture, reducing food miles and promoting local production. As it builds new facilities in Toronto and the Middle East, Infarm remains dedicated to reshaping the future of farming.
