KŌRARU is a women's swimwear label designed from Tokyo, where its founder, Romanian model and designer Oana Romaneiro, now lives. The brand describes its swimwear as made in the UK. Kōraru is the Japanese pronunciation of the English word coral, chosen as a nod to the threatened reef ecosystems that inspire the brand. The founder started the label after swimsuits she bought for a holiday lost their shape within a week. The brand follows slow fashion and circular design principles. Its swimsuits use ECONYL regenerated yarn made from nylon waste and are designed to last for years. Packaging is made from recyclable materials. The label is also a member of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation's circular economy network. Good On You rates Koraru Good overall. It scores Good on planet for its medium share of recycled and other lower-impact materials, its clothing recycling offer and its efforts to reduce packaging. The people score is It's a Start: the brand partly traces its supply chain and its code of conduct covers ILO principles, but Good On You found no evidence of supplier audits or living wages.
