About

Recycle A Device (RAD) turns pre-loved laptops into an opportunity for rangatahi and whānau across Aotearoa. Businesses, schools and individuals donate laptops they no longer need. Instead of heading to landfill or early e-wasting, those devices go to RAD Clubs in schools around the motu, where rangatahi learn to wipe, test and refurbish them. Along the way, they build real-world tech skills, confidence and a glimpse of where a career in technology could take them. Once refurbished, the laptops are gifted to whānau and communities who need them, opening doors to learning, work and connection. Since 2020, RAD has gifted over 10,000 laptops to communities. It's a simple, circular kaupapa (initiative): good tech stays in use, rangatahi grow their skills, and more whānau get the access they need to thrive in a digital world. RAD is a programme of Digital Future Aotearoa, a charity working towards digital equity for children and young people in New Zealand.
