Malai Biomaterials focus on harnessing natural processes, minimizing waste, and producing high-quality alternatives to leather. They gather by-products like coconut water from agricultural industries, which would otherwise be discarded & converts waste materials into a valuable resource, promoting circular economy principles. Malai uses microbial fermentation to grow bacterial cellulose, uses coconut water as a nutrient-rich medium for bacterial cultures. This process produces cellulose sheets, which form the foundation of the biomaterial. The fermentation process typically takes 10-14 days, depending on environmental conditions. Extracts and cleans the cellulose sheets post-fermentation to prepare them for further processing. Bacterial cellulose combines with fibers like banana, hemp, or sisal for added strength and flexibility. They uses non-toxic, natural binders to ensure the material remains biodegradable and eco-friendly. Careful drying of the material maintain its structural integrity. Exposing the material to UV light to enhance durability and resistance. The company use plant-based or non-toxic dyes for coloring & applies eco-friendly coatings for water resistance and improved material lifespan. Plant extracts like Indigo, Madder, Cutch or Marigold petals are used in order to achieve warm earthy colors. The biomaterial can process for diverse applications, including fashion, accessories, furniture, and packaging.
