Mayamiko is an ethical and sustainable womenswear and lifestyle brand, offering a unique selection of clothing, accessories, and homeware. Made with love in Malawi, the brand's collections celebrate African artisanal traditions and prints, particularly the locally cherished Chitenje fabric. With a focus on ethical trading and sustainability, Mayamiko designs for the modern global woman while honoring African heritage. Their commitment to craftsmanship extends globally, incorporating embroidery from Sri Lanka, handloom textiles from Myanmar, reclaimed jewelry from Laos, and upcycled silk from Italy. Mayamiko believes that ethical production should enhance product quality and design, not compromise it. The brand is a strong advocate for using technology to support sustainable development and works with Mayamiko Trust to empower Malawi’s disadvantaged communities. Through nurturing creativity, they help individuals develop marketable skills, lifting them out of poverty and guiding them toward sustainable, prosperous futures.

Mayamiko
1.Ethical Production & Fair Trade: All products are lovingly made in a solar-powered workshop in Malawi, where tailors receive fair, living wages and work in safe conditions, adhering to the World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO) and International Labour Organization (ILO) principles.
2.Artisan Collaboration & Traditional Techniques: Mayamiko works with local artisans who utilize indigenous skills like hand-dyeing, weaving, and embroidery. The main collections feature locally sourced fabrics (known as chitenje) that reflect traditional African craftsmanship.
3.Community Empowerment & Training: The Mayamiko Fashion Lab provides vocational tailoring, business, and financial literacy training to local women, many affected by the HIV pandemic. Graduates can choose to work with the brand or receive grants to start their own independent businesses, breaking cycles of poverty.
4.Sustainable Materials: The brand sources materials locally in Malawi to reduce its carbon footprint and supports the local economy. It also incorporates GOTS-certified organic cotton, linen, and upcycled or deadstock fabrics from around the world.
5.Zero-Waste Philosophy: Mayamiko employs zero-waste pattern-cutting techniques and ensures that all fabric scraps are repurposed into other useful items like headbands, accessories, and reusable sanitary pads, which are distributed to girls in local communities and refugee camps.
6.Transparency and Traceability: Each garment often includes a QR code that customers can scan to "meet" the specific artisan who made their clothing, providing full transparency into the production process.
7.Circularity: In addition to making durable, timeless clothing, Mayamiko embraces a circular economy model through rental partnerships and a resale platform, extending the life of its garments for a second, third, or even fourth life.
