Studio One Eighty Nine is a social enterprise headquartered in Ghana, West Africa, and the USA. It was founded by Rosario Dawson and Abrima Erwiah to promote and curate African and African-inspired content and brands. Through the worldwide distribution and manufacturing of its private label artisan-produced collections, the company also supports other brands. The mission is rooted in empowerment, job creation, and supporting education and skills training, particularly for artisans across Africa. The first collection launched on February 14th, 2013, coinciding with One Billion Rising, an initiative for gender equality. The idea for Studio One Eighty Nine and the Fashion Rising concept developed after Rosario Dawson's trip with V-Day in 2011, where she traveled through Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The goal is to create sustainable impact by combining fashion with social responsibility and amplifying African creativity and craftsmanship.
