Sustainable Run for Development (SURUDEV) is a non-profit, non-denominational organization established in 2007 and legally registered in 2010 in Cameroon. With a mission to promote inclusive, equitable, and sustainable development, SURUDEV works to transform environmental and agricultural landscapes to sustain livelihoods for marginalized communities. Their efforts focus on community-led initiatives, including biodiversity conservation, waste management, promoting renewable energy, climate-smart agriculture, and ensuring food security and income security. SURUDEV addresses poverty by empowering local communities through sustainable agriculture practices, entrepreneurship, and agripreneurship. They also promote peace and interfaith dialogue, deliver relief services to displaced persons, and raise awareness about health, sanitation, and gender equality. By nurturing traditional wisdom and encouraging progressive mindsets, SURUDEV aims to ensure that everyone, especially the disadvantaged, has access to opportunities that promote environmental, economic, and social well-being.

SURUDEV integrates scientific knowledge, indigenous practices, and community participation to achieve lasting environmental and socioeconomic benefits. Our approach prioritizes local ownership, the inclusion of women and youth, biodiversity protection, and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Community-Based Landscape Restoration and Sustainable Development
SURUDEV applies an integrated, community-driven approach that combines scientific research, indigenous knowledge, ecological restoration, agro-ecology, and sustainable livelihood development to address environmental challenges.
Our process begins with identifying local environmental problems and community needs through field assessments, biodiversity surveys, ecological monitoring, stakeholder consultations, and participatory planning. We use the findings to design practical interventions tailored to local ecosystems, climate conditions, and livelihood priorities.
For landscape restoration, we promote native tree propagation, tree planting, assisted natural regeneration, agroforestry, forest gardening, and the rehabilitation of degraded habitats and watersheds. We encourage the use of locally appropriate species and restoration practices that support biodiversity, improve soil health, reduce erosion, and strengthen ecosystem resilience.
Our agro-ecological techniques integrate trees, crops, livestock, and natural resource management to improve food production while reducing environmental degradation. At our eco-villages, we demonstrate integrated farming systems, mushroom cultivation, beekeeping, aquaculture, Azolla production, black soldier fly farming, and organic soil fertility management. These practices encourage resource efficiency, nutrient recycling, income diversification, and sustainable green enterprises.
To address climate change and water insecurity, we implement nature-based solutions that enhance carbon sequestration, protect water catchments, improve soil moisture retention, and promote sustainable water management. Environmental education, community awareness, practical training, and knowledge sharing help local people adopt and maintain these solutions.
We prioritize the participation of women, youth, farmers, indigenous communities, and other vulnerable groups throughout planning, implementation, and monitoring. We track progress using indicators such as trees planted and surviving, land restored, biodiversity observations, people trained, and livelihood opportunities supported.
Through partnerships, adaptive management, and continuous learning, SURUDEV seeks to deliver lasting ecological and socioeconomic benefits, ensuring that landscape restoration goes hand in hand with biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, water security, and sustainable livelihoods.
