Philodendron 'Splendid' is a hybrid of P. melanochrysum and P. verrucosum with large, velvety, heart-shaped leaves and prominent veins. Jiffy Plants presents it as a good first rare plant because it adapts to a range of conditions, including a fairly dim corner, and tolerates the occasional missed watering. It is a climber, and the seller says its leaves reach their largest size when it has a support pole. Growth is faster and leaves bigger in high humidity, but it also does well in moderate humidity, in an airy mix of bark, perlite and peat moss.
