Tradescantia pallida 'Queen', also called purple heart or purple queen, is a trailing plant grown for its vivid purple foliage and is sold here as a single plant in a 2.5-inch pot. Jiffy Plants explains that the purple deepens the more sun the plant receives, while plants kept in shade turn greener and leggy. Once established it is fairly drought tolerant, and its somewhat fragile stems root easily from cuttings. In frost-free climates it can be grown outdoors as a groundcover, its sprawling stems rooting into moist soil, and the seller warns that the sap can irritate skin and is toxic if eaten.
